What's Included in the Pool Day Pass

The pool day pass at Riad Vendôme gives you exclusive access to a private patio pool in the Marrakech medina, no strangers, no crowds, just your group. The patio pool is surrounded by traditional Moroccan architecture: carved stucco walls, zellige tiles, orange trees. It's everything a riad pool should be.

Depending on the package, your day pass also includes the heated rooftop jacuzzi at 36°C (250m² terrace, Atlas mountain views), a traditional hammam scrub with black soap and rhassoul clay, a 1-hour massage, and a Moroccan lunch. Sessions run morning (10:00-13:30) or afternoon (14:00-18:00). Minimum 2 persons.

Who a Pool Day Pass in Marrakech Is Really For

A day pass is not a consolation prize for people who could not book a room. It is a different product with its own audience, and it works best when your day has a shape that a hotel booking cannot fit. The most common case is the traveller caught between two flights. If you land in the morning and leave late in the evening, you have a full day in Marrakech and nowhere to put your bag, no shower, and no shade. The second case is the guest already staying in the medina in a riad without a pool. Many beautiful medina houses have a patio, a fountain and a rooftop but no water to get into. What a Day at the Pool Actually Looks Like

The day starts on foot. Vehicles do not reach every door in the medina, so a member of staff meets you at the nearest vehicle drop-off point and walks you in through the derb. That short walk matters more than it sounds: you go from noise and dust to a closed courtyard in the space of a minute or two, and the change in sound is the first thing most people notice.

Then comes the settling. You are shown where to change, where to leave your bag, and where the towels are. Most people swim almost immediately, because the first swim is the one you have been thinking about since the airport. After that the day slows down. You find your spot, sun on one side of the patio, shade on the other, and the rhythm becomes swim, dry, tea, read, swim again. Nobody is timing you and there is no queue for a lounger, because the patio is yours.

Medina Pool or Palmeraie Beach Club: An Honest Comparison

Both work. They are simply not the same day, and the honest way to choose is to decide what you want to give up. An out-of-town beach club or a Palmeraie hotel pool gives you scale: a big body of water, long sunbeds, a bar, music, room to swim proper lengths. If you want a lively pool with a crowd and a soundtrack, that is where it exists, and the medina cannot offer it.

What it costs you is the day's edges. You need a taxi in each direction, you agree a fare or watch a meter, and the return trip in the late afternoon is exactly when everyone else wants a taxi too. You also commit: once you are out there, popping back into the medina for an hour is not realistic.

A medina pool inverts all of that. Riad Vendôme is a 7-minute walk from Jemaa El-Fna, so the pool is not an excursion, it is a room you step into between other things. You can spend the morning in the souks, swim through the worst of the afternoon heat, and be back out for the evening without ever getting into a car. What you give up is size and noise. A courtyard pool is not built for lengths, and there is no bar with music. If your idea of a pool day is a party by the water, be fair to yourself and go to the Palmeraie. If it is quiet water in a beautiful room with the city ten minutes away, the medina wins on every practical count.

Season by Season: When a Pool Day Makes Sense

The pool is open to day visitors from April to October, and that window is not arbitrary. It is the stretch when swimming outdoors in Marrakech is genuinely pleasant rather than something you talk yourself into.

In spring the courtyard is at its most comfortable. The air is warm without being punishing, the orange trees are in flower, and you can lie in direct sun for long stretches. The water still has winter in it early in the season and wakes up as the weeks pass, so spring swims tend to be shorter and brighter. By high summer the balance flips completely: the sun becomes the thing you shelter from, and the pool stops being a novelty and becomes the reason the day is survivable at all. This is when the shade pattern of a courtyard matters most, and when an afternoon session (2pm-6pm) is often better judged than a morning one. Early autumn is, for many regulars, the best of the year: the fierce edge has gone out of the heat, the water has all summer stored in it, and the courtyard holds warmth into the evening.

Outside that window the calculation changes and we say so plainly. Practicalities: What to Bring and What Is Provided

Bring a swimming costume, and that is close to the whole list. Towels are provided, as is drinking water and mint tea throughout your stay. Bring sunscreen and something to cover your shoulders, because a courtyard in high season concentrates sun even when it feels sheltered, and bring a book or headphones if you intend to do nothing for several hours, which is the correct way to use the day.

On working: yes, you can. There is WiFi, there is shade, and there are tables, and a courtyard where nobody is going to ask you to buy another coffee is a better office than most cafés in the medina. It is quiet by construction rather than by rule. What it is not is a co-working space with monitors and meeting rooms: set your expectations at laptop, notebook and a long afternoon.

Food and drink are handled in the house. Why a Courtyard Pool Behaves Differently from a Hotel Pool

The difference is architectural, not commercial. A riad is a house built inward: rooms wrap around an open patio, and the pool sits at the bottom of that shaft of walls. This does several things at once that a hotel pool deck cannot replicate.

Shade arrives on its own. High walls mean the sun only reaches the water for part of the day, and the shaded half of the patio moves as the hours pass, so there is always somewhere cool without anyone putting up an umbrella. Sound stops at the door. The medina is loud, but that noise is a street phenomenon; inside the walls you hear water, birds and whoever you came with. Scale changes the social contract. A hotel pool is a public space where you negotiate for a lounger and share the water with strangers. A courtyard pool is small enough that sharing it with people you do not know would be uncomfortable, which is exactly why we do not do it: the pool is exclusively for your group, and there are no other bathers.

The trade is real and worth naming. You do not get a swim-up bar, you do not get lengths, and you do not get a view from the water. What you get instead is a room with water in it, at the temperature the season made it, with nobody else in it.
