  • Quad biking in Agafay desert: suitable from age 6. Family quads available.
  • Camel ride in Palmeraie: 30-minute ride, safe and supervised.
  • Moroccan cooking class with Chef Naima: children love kneading pastilla dough and decorating plates.

Travelling with Young Children: What We Can Confirm

Most itineraries you will find online invent age limits for activities. We do not. Here is what we can state for the riad itself, and how we handle the rest.

Under 2 yearsBaby cot free of charge on direct booking. Bottle warming and fridge access in the kitchen on request.
Room capacityFamily rooms take 2 adults and up to 3 children. Adjoining rooms available for larger families.
Pool5×3 m pool in the patio, visible from the breakfast tables and supervised at all times. No lifeguard: children remain under parental supervision.
Babysitting€30 at night, €20 during the day, arranged with a member of our own staff, booked the day before.
MealsChef Naima cooks child portions with mild spices, and adapts to allergies you tell us about in advance.
Tourist tax€3 per person per night, payable on site.
Activity age limitsQuad biking, camel rides, hot-air balloon and cooking classes each have their own minimum age set by the provider, and these change. We do not publish a number we cannot guarantee: send us your children's ages and we confirm in writing, before you pay anything, exactly which activities each child can join.

Pacing a day in the medina with small children

Two practical points that most guides leave out. First, the heat: between 12:00 and 16:00 from May to September, the medina is hard going for a toddler. We build the mornings around one outing and keep the afternoon at the riad, by the pool, where it stays cooler under the patio. Second, pushchairs: the alleyways around Dar El Bacha are flat and wide enough for a pushchair, but the souks themselves are not, a baby carrier works better there. The riad is 7 minutes' walk from Jemaa el-Fna, so you come back for a nap and go out again without taking a taxi.

Tell us the ages of your children and we build the day-by-day around their naps, not around a brochure. Éric replies personally on WhatsApp +212 600 608 608, written quote within minutes.

Pacing a Stay With Young Children: What Actually Works

With a child under three, plan one outing a day and keep the 12:00-16:00 nap window. Marrakech in the middle of the day is hot and loud, and a family that tries to fit two sights plus the souks into one day spends the evening managing a meltdown rather than eating dinner. The patio pool is what makes the difference: it is the reason the day works, not an extra. One contact throughout: Éric, owner since 2011: WhatsApp +212 600 608 608, written quote within minutes.

08:30-09:30Moroccan breakfast on the rooftop or in the patio. Children eat early and then have the pool to themselves before the heat.
10:00-12:00One outing, and one only. The Jardin Majorelle, the Bahia Palace or a slow walk to Jemaa el-Fna, 7 minutes away. Back before midday.
12:00-16:00Lunch at the riad, then the nap window kept intact. This is the part families give up first and regret. Older children swim in the patio pool while the youngest sleeps.
16:00-18:00Pool, or the second short outing if the children are older. The souks are calmer late afternoon than at midday.
19:00-20:00Children's dinner by Chef Naima, plain chicken, pasta, chips and fruit if that is what works, said in advance and without judgement.
20:30Parents' dinner in the patio once the children are down. On a request made when you book, Éric arranges a babysitter (€30 at night, €20 during the day).

Low-season rates, conditions apply. Please enquire.

Three things we would rather tell you before you book

  • A pushchair is awkward in the medina. The alleys are uneven, often narrow, and shared with mopeds and handcarts. Most parents end up carrying the youngest in a sling. Bring one.
  • The souks are intense for a toddler: noise, smells, crowding, no room to walk freely. They work far better late afternoon, and in short doses, than at midday.
  • Minimum ages for quad biking, camel rides, hot-air balloon and cooking classes are set by each provider and they change. We do not publish a number we cannot guarantee: send us your children's ages and we confirm in writing, before you pay anything, exactly which activities each child can join.

Out and about with children

The patio is enclosed, the pool is in full view of parents, and outings are done on foot along wide streets. The one useful reflex is to hold hands in the shopping alleys, where mopeds pass. More on the questions most often asked before arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the riad safe for children?

Yes. The pool is visible from the patio, the Dar El Bacha district is a former palace quarter with some of the widest lanes in the medina, and the staff looks after the whole family's comfort.

Can the cook prepare meals for children?

Yes. Our cook adapts meals: dishes less spicy, pasta, grilled chicken, crepes. The breakfast includes options that children love.

Best Time for a Family Holiday in Marrakech: UK School Holidays

Marrakech works brilliantly for UK school holiday timing. 300 days of sunshine a year, short flight (3h30 from London, 3h45 from Manchester), and no long-haul jet lag.

UK School HolidayMarrakech WeatherOur Pick
February Half Term18-22°C, sunny, no crowds⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect, best weather/price balance
Easter Holidays20-26°C, warm and sunny⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hottest weeks, book early
Summer Holidays32-42°C July/August⭐⭐⭐ Very hot, pool essential, plan early mornings
October Half Term22-28°C, warm and dry⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ideal, post-summer calm, excellent value
Christmas Holidays16-20°C, sunny while the UK is grey⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great escape, consider Oukaïmeden ski day

Pro tip from Éric: February half term and October half term are our sweet spots, warm enough for the pool, cool enough to explore the medina comfortably, and generally better value than Easter peak.

What is the most flexible family booking with young children at Riad Vendôme?

The most flexible booking for families with young children is the partial booking (no exclusive hire) + à-la-carte services: choose 1-2 rooms based on family size, add Chef Naima dinners as needed, book hammam (for parents) and pool (for kids) at different times. Éric coordinates parents' adult activities (couples massage €84/2 during kids' afternoon nap) and family activities (gentle Atlas valley picnic, pony ride in Agafay). Modifications possible up to 14 days before. Cancellation flexible for medical reasons (frequent with young children).

How long is the flight to Marrakech from the US and Canada?

There are no non-stop flights from the United States; from New York allow about 8 to 9 hours via Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc, which hubs there. From Canada, Royal Air Maroc runs a seasonal non-stop from Montreal to Casablanca, then a short connection to Marrakech. The riad is about 20 minutes from Marrakech-Menara airport, and US, Canadian and EU citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days.

What is included in the Oasiria water park day trip for kids near the riad?

Oasiria Water Park is 4 km from the riad, about 15 minutes by taxi, and features 17 water slides, a wave pool, a lazy river and a dedicated toddler area. Entry costs approximately 22 euros for adults and 17 euros for children, and Riad Vendôme arranges the transport for a full day out.

How much does a family suite for two adults and two children cost per night?

A Family Suite for 2 adults and 2 children costs 110 euros per night, including an extra bed and a spacious bathroom. Larger families can also book adjoining rooms for 4 to 6 guests at 155 euros per night, or hire the full riad from 950 euros for 10 to 50 guests.

Where exactly is Riad Vendôme located in Marrakech?

Riad Vendôme is at 217 Derb El Halfaoui, in the Dar El Bacha district of the Marrakech medina. It is a 7-minute walk from Jemaa El-Fna square, close to the Koutoubia and the souks, so you reach the main sights on foot without needing a taxi. A member of staff meets you at the nearest vehicle drop-off point on arrival.

How do I book, and how quickly do you reply?

You book directly with the riad, not through a platform. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp at +212 600 608 608 and you receive a written quote within minutes. There is no automated booking engine: every stay is confirmed by a person, and the payment terms are set out in the quote you receive.

Can the whole riad be privatised, and for how many guests?

Yes, Riad Vendôme can be hired exclusively. The main riad has 12 rooms and goes up to 20 rooms with a partner riad 100 metres away, for exclusive hire of up to 50 guests. During an exclusive hire there are no other guests: the pool, hammam, jacuzzi and rooftop are reserved for your group alone.

How do you pace a day in the Marrakech medina with a toddler?

Between 12:00 and 16:00 from May to September the medina is hard going for a toddler, so we build the mornings around one outing and keep the afternoon at the riad by the pool, where it stays cooler under the patio. The alleyways around Dar El Bacha are flat and wide enough for a pushchair, but the souks are not, so a baby carrier works better there. The riad is 7 minutes' walk from Jemaa el-Fna, so you come back for a nap and go out again without taking a taxi.
